Historical Structure and Naming of Polish Air Forces
  • Pre 1954: Wojska Lotnicze i Wojska Obrony Powietrznej Kraju = Air Force and National Air Defence - seperately administered formations.
  • 1954-1962: Wojska Lotnicze i Obrony Przeciwlotniczej Obszaru Kraju = Air force and Anti-Air Defence of the National Territory - a single formation.
  • 1962-1990: Wojska Lotnicze (WL) i Wojska Obrony Powietrznej Kraju (WOPK) = Air Force and Air Defence Forces - again split into seperately administered formations.
  • 1990-2004: Wojska Lotnicze i Obrony Powietrznej (WLOP) = Air Force and Air Defence - Joined together again as a single formation.
  • 2004-present: Siły Powietrzne = Air Forces - single formation.
